home about jim case studies faq contact home “transform your business operations” expert international consultant now semi-retired to scotland shows you how to quickly become the best in your business hi, jim here, it’s a tough competitive world out there. you can spend a bundle of money on your front-end marketing and sales to generate new customers. but if your back-end business operations are less than top-notch, you’re going to lose these customers and get left behind. to keep and grow these customers you need to – deliver faster than your competitors to give a superior customer service be more productive than your competitors to get lower costs, and always get things right first time to avoid rework and even more cost and it can be done. here in scotland. and that’s where i come in. i’ll help you do it. for the last thirty years i’ve helped transform the back-end operations of leading companies around the world. (see the ‘about jim’ tab above). these leading companies are all well-known names – among the most successful in their field. their back-end operations used the latest and best technology. they employed great people. they passed every regulatory inspection with flying colours. they were good. really good. but i showed them how they could be even better. because, even though they constantly updated their technology, equipment and people, they never, ever challenged and changed the fundamental business processes that they used in their back-end operations. and i’m one of the few people around who has the experience and proven record to really do that effectively. that’s why my “be the best” approach works so well. now that i’ve come back to scotland, i want to share that experience with local companies and help them also to do even better. let me outline my unique approach for you. how does my “be the best” (btb) approach work so well? over the years i’ve developed a series of world-class benchmarks that allow me to assess how well your back-end processes are really doing. they also let you see how much you still have to improve to reach these world-class standards and blow away your competition. my “be the best” approach has one basic goal – to get you and your team performing as closely as possible to those world-class levels of performance in the shortest possible time. in my approach, it’s your people that help create a vision of what’s possible in your business. it’s your people that own the solution. they want to show you they can make it happen. i facilitate that process with my proven methodology that delivers real results quickly. this approach avoids the “not-invented-here” syndrome that too often demotivates staff facing change from external consultants. it also gives much more successful and sustainable results. using this approach, i’ll challenge you and your team to think about your operations in a different way – to see your real potential – and show you how to get there. if you open your mind to these possibilities, i’ll show you how you can take more control over the future of your business, gain more firepower over your competitors, and dramatically change your business life for the better. how do we apply the btb approach in your business? by working together through a program that covers four phases – pre-launch phase assessment phase planning phase implementation phase normally you’re pretty clear on what you want to achieve in terms of being more competitive. i’ll then take you by the hand and show you how you can actually make it happen. pre-launch phase i’ll visit you for a diagnostic day (free of charge) that lets me assess your potential and prepare a detailed proposal on the program. we’ll agree which of your products or processes we should use for the initial project, and i’ll gather some info on it. you’ll also select the core project team that will have the responsibility of developing the right btb solutions. you should draw them from your junior management ranks and below. they should be your potential senior managers of the future. assessment phase this phase normally lasts around 8 to 10 weeks. in it i’ll work with your senior management group and the core project team to help them understand the fundamental btb objectives, develop a radical practical vision of the btb solution, and assess the implications of btb on the rest of the business. our fundamental objectives in the program are to – dramatically improve your responsiveness to customer demand so that you develop a superior customer service that can potentially result in more revenues, significantly improve your internal productivity so that you create more capacity for growth, reduce costs and improve profits, and get all your key processes operating right first time to avoid rework and duplication, to generate further cost savings and facilitate the other two objectives. under my guidance, the team will develop a practical vision that will include radical step-change improvements in all of these objectives. achieving that vision will deliver significant operational and financial benefits to your business. the team will also work out the changes required in support functions to synchronise them with the proposed new value-adding processes. in particular they would assess the quality and planning functions, and any changes required in hr. planning phase this phase normally lasts around 4 to 6 weeks. under my guidance the team develops a robust implementation plan that sets out the activities and resources required to deliver our agreed practical vision. at the end of this phase, the team present their findings and conclusions to you and the senior management group so that you can decide whether to proceed further with the project. the presentation includes a cost / benefits analysis of the business case. note that at this point no changes would have been made to the ways of working on the shop floor or office, other than obvious quick wins. after approval, the team then move on to implement the agreed vision. implementation phase this phase normally lasts around six to nine months. during this phase the core project team lead the changes to ways of working. they also have regular meetings with the senior management group to report progress. their aim is to achieve the practical vision and deliver the operational and financial benefits to your business. beyond this phase any roll-out to other products would be subject to a separate contract. what are the benefits to you from using this approach? the benefits you get from using me rather than trying to do such a program yourselves are – i’ve done it before – many times, i can demonstrate successful btb projects in lots of sectors, and i bring a proven methodology for delivering results quickly. the main operational and business benefits you get are – a higher level of improved operational performance, healthier attitudes towards change from seeing in-house people achieve big results, a firmer foundation for further on-going improvement programs, a stronger sense of teamwork throughout the business, a comprehensive assessment of your potential, more soundly based strategic planning, and above all, a stronger competitive position in your marketplace. the financial benefits from the program usually run to between 10 and 100 times my fees. sometimes even more. your return on investment from using me is better than with any other consulting firm. against the big firms, my roi is probably around 100 times more. that’s because they charge ten times more than i do, and i deliver ten times more value than they do. the small firms just can’t compete with my approach. they don’t have the right experience. from my experience, i believe that these benefits are real and achievable in virtually every company in scotland. during the program i’ll do all i can to ensure the objectives are delivered, including working with the in-house team in a hands-on manner, guiding and coaching them on how to properly apply the b
